Laney, a 16-year-old romantic, is deeply in love with Brook, a 20-year-old with an obsession with death. Together, they set up an elaborate fake murder scene to dramatize their planned leap from a balcony. They grapple with questions of whether a caring God exists, what life might be like if they were "normal and straight," and whether their parents would attend their funeral.
